HELLO THERE, I'm Katja!

For as long as I remember I have painted and drawn on just about anything I could lay my hands on. My main subjects were always humans and other living beings. With my background in theatre it isn't surprising that my paintings have a very similar theme: The experience of life itself and our way of dealing with the grandiosity of it all is at the center of my works. I like to make the viewer giggle and smile, while at the same time digging a bit deeper. Are we humans as grand as we think? How do we interact with each other? Are we better than animals? Are we often just lost and lonely? I love to use rich, warm colours and I use many layers in my paintings, while my drawings are simplified, direct and raw.

My art studio is in a 500-year old house. It's near Vienna and I have a lovely garden in the back where you can find me take my breaks with a cup of tea in my hand and one or several cats on my lap.
